Some couples cut the cake. Christy and Ray went to war with it.
Most wedding cakes get a gentle slice, a polite bite and a sweet smile for the camera. Not this one. After a beautiful yellow plumeria ceremony on the beach at Waimanalo, Christy and Ray took one look at their cake, then at each other, and the smile of cake revenge spread across their faces.
What followed was the most fun cake battle we have ever photographed: frosting in the eye, a chase down the sand, and a bride who ate cake right off her husband’s head. Before the battle
Yellow Plumeria by the Sea
It all started so sweetly. Christy and Ray said “I do” at Waimanalo under a white trellis arch wrapped in bright yellow plumeria, orange royal flowers, silky organza and Hawaiian fern. The leis were on, the sun was out, and nobody suspected what was coming.
“Cast your doubts and shed your fears, for you have found the treasure: love.”
Round one
A Sweet First Bite
The cake came out, the knife came out, and the newlyweds shared that sweet first bite like proper, polite married people. For about thirty seconds.
Round two
Let the Cake Fight Begin
Then came the smile of cake revenge. A little frosting on the nose turned into a full beach battle: cake in the eye, a chase down the sand with the bride in hot pursuit, and, in a move the judges are still talking about, the bride eating cake right off the top of her husband’s head. Nobody won. Everybody won.
The aftermath
Friends, Frosting & a Little Clean Up
Every great battle needs a support team. The bridesmaids rushed in with napkins and big smiles, and the whole wedding party joined the fun. Luckily the Pacific Ocean was right there.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we have a cake fight at our Hawaii beach wedding?
Absolutely. A playful cake fight on the sand makes some of the most fun photos of the day. We set up the cake table by the ocean, and there is plenty of room to run.
Will the cake ruin my wedding dress?
Frosting usually wipes off with a little water, and the ocean is right there. Many brides save the cake fight for after the ceremony photos, and the bridesmaids keep napkins ready.
Where was this cake fight?
Christy and Ray's cake fight was at Waimanalo on Oahu's east side, after their yellow plumeria beach wedding.
Can you provide the wedding cake?
Yes. We can arrange a wedding cake for your beach ceremony. See our wedding cakes page for ideas.
